My Skincare Routine: Summer Edition

by - 3:21 AM

OMG! How long has it been since I do a proper blog post? Well, I decided to take a break from my long silence to share with you my current skincare favorites. I had a few more but these are definitely the ones I find myself repurchasing.

Before I jump into the listing portion of this post, I would like to give you a little context about my skin. In order to properly select which skin products could work for you, you need to know what kind of skin you have, for instance mine is combination normal/oily but when using Retin-a, it can become dry/oily. Other things worth mentioning is my gastrointestinal condition that affects the colon which in turn can affect the way toxins are handled in the body, causing some skin problems. Before I knew what I had this, I went through puberty with some mild acne which cleared up and came back. For a while my skin was completely clear but after some medications I was under,  this made my skin flare.

Now that you had a little overview, I want to emphasize that these are products I've been using for years and some I started using a couple of months ago. If you are curious about trying any of these make sure to follow instructions and determine what works for you.

THE LIST

1. Purity Made Simple Cleaner
I love that I can use this as make-up remover and cleanser all at the same time. My best tip is to apply directly over make-up and rubbed and then use a damp-hot towel and gently remove and clean your face.

2. Purity Pore Extractor Mask
This stuff was a happy accident. It came as part of a set I got for Christmas and I've discovered how great this is. You can use it directly as a spot treatment over pimples or apply as a mask on your t-zone. One thing I learned is that this stuff can be drying, so I only use it on my nose which the oiliest part. It helps with pores and blackheads.

3. The Ordinary 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
I'm now a believer and understand why this brand is being raved about. This particular product is beyond worlds. Been using it for 2-3 months and I can't tell you how much the texture of my skin has improved. It looks scary when you put it on because the product looks literally like blood but it's not. What this does is to provide a gentle exfoliation to the skin. I started applying it once a week and have now graduated to twice a week and I feel like this has worked better.

4. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
When I purchased this I didn't know what to expect but used in conjunction with several products from this brand, I came to the realization that together they become stronger. Applying this right after exfoliation done with the product I previously mentioned, you will achieve glass skin effect. The main function of this serum is to reduce sebum production which means that if your skin is oily, this will be your best friend. Not only does it control oil but it helps with hyperpigmentation!

5. Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion + Moisturizer
Due to the fact my skin can become oilier, dryer or just somewhat in between, I use different moisturizers according to what the skin is asking for. In most cases, I find myself reaching out for this little gem. I stumbled across this at a grocery store and tried some samples that were available. I've used this during all seasons of the year and it's safe to say this is probably one of the best moisturizers I've used. It's not greasy, not sticky, and doesn't have a strong fragrance. I enjoy using this prior make-up because it makes the skin nice and prepped and it acts like a primer. I also use this in my hands and body if I run out of my body moisturizer. This is definitely a multitasker.

6. Earth Therapeutics Recover-E Kiwi Eye Pads
I got these not expect much but oh boy was I wrong! These are so useful and cute. I store them in the refrigerator for a more cooling effect. It brightens up the eyes and makes you look rested. I love these and suggest getting during sales so you can just get a whole bunch. You''ll be obsessed.
7. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Brightening Eye Cream
I have yet to find an under eye cream I can say it's perfect. I started getting into them recently because I have some sleeping issues and of course we aren't getting any younger so it's good to start early to take care of our skin. This one I received from a giveaway I won and I've been using it ever since. I also use a roll-on eye refresher by Elf Cosmetics.

8. Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50
Sunscreen is definitely something I do religiously. Coming from a tropical country, I grew up taking care of my skin. I've used many different brands but this one is pretty good and I'm thinking of alternating from this one to the matte version also sold at Sephora because the weather has been kind of humid here in the Dominican Republic and I feel like this product is very emollient in nature. Most sunblockers can be quite oily, so it's normal but now I see they're making matte and tinted versions which is kind of cool for those who hate the oily look or want a little hint of color.

I didn't include the sheet masks I use because I tend to alternate them, but I love using one once a week when I feel the skin needs extra hydration. I usually get them at Sally's or Ulta.

I hope you enjoyed this little post and found something useful. All these products are quite affordable, I feel like despite their price they perform pretty well. Quality versus quantity.
